General advisory disclaimer
Information on this website is general in nature and provided for education. It is not personalized insurance, investment, tax, or legal advice. Recommendations are made only after an advisor reviews your individual circumstances, and insurance products are offered through licensed advisors.
Underwriting and policy terms
All coverage is subject to underwriting approval by the issuing insurance company. Policy obligations are the sole responsibility of the issuing insurer. Premiums, benefits, terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions are set out in the policy documents, which govern in all cases.
How we are paid
BMI Advisory does not charge you a fee for insurance advice or for placing your coverage. We are paid by the insurance company whose product you purchase, generally through a commission calculated as a percentage of the premium, and in some cases renewal or service commissions and other compensation. These amounts vary by insurer, product, and premium, and may differ between the products we recommend.
We represent multiple insurance companies. We do not represent every insurer in the market, and the insurers we can offer are limited to those with whom we hold contracts.
Before you apply, we will tell you in writing the name of the insurer whose product is being provided, whether we will be paid a commission or other compensation by that insurer, and any relationship between us and that insurer beyond the ordinary contract to represent them.
You have the right to ask us, at any time, how we are paid, which insurers we represent, and whether we have any conflict of interest. We will answer plainly. If we ever receive compensation in a way not described here, we will disclose it to you in writing before you commit.
Segregated funds
Segregated fund contracts are insurance contracts issued by life insurance companies. They are not bank deposits and are not insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation. Any amount allocated to a segregated fund is invested at the risk of the contract holder and may increase or decrease in value; maturity and death benefit guarantees are provided by the issuing insurer as set out in the contract. Fees and charges apply. Please read the Information Folder and Fund Facts before investing. Information about consumer protection for life insurance contract holders is available from Assuris (assuris.ca).
Travel and Super Visa insurance
Travel and visitor insurance policies contain exclusions and limitations, including for pre-existing medical conditions, and may require medical questionnaires or stability periods. Super Visa applications require proof of medical coverage that meets Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) requirements, which can change; we confirm current requirements with you before purchase.
Mortgage protection insurance
Mortgage protection offered through BMI is individually owned insurance. Product features described on this site, such as portability between lenders and level benefit amounts, vary by insurer and policy; confirm the exact terms in the policy documents. Comparisons with lender coverage describe typical creditor group insurance structures, and the terms of any specific lender's coverage are set out in that lender's certificate.
Group benefits
Group benefits descriptions are summaries only. Plan design, eligibility, and benefit maximums are established in the group contract issued to the plan sponsor.
Home and auto insurance
Home and auto insurance is coming soon as an in-house BMI service. Today, home and auto inquiries are referred to licensed general insurance partners. Availability varies by province.
Testimonials and reviews
Testimonials on this site are from real BMI clients and partners, collected through our website. They reflect individual experiences and are not a guarantee of outcome. No compensation was provided for reviews.
Electronic communications and CASL
Our commercial electronic messages comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation. Every marketing email or text includes a clear unsubscribe option, honoured promptly and in any case within 10 business days. You will only receive marketing messages where you have provided consent.
Complaints
Contact us first at [email protected]. Policy-related concerns can also be raised with the issuing insurer's complaint officer. For unresolved life and health insurance complaints, contact the OmbudService for Life and Health Insurance (olhi-oap.ca). For information about insurance regulators across Canada, visit the Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (ccir-ccrra.org) and the Canadian Insurance Services Regulatory Organizations (cisro-ocra.com).
Licensing
Insurance products are offered through advisors licensed in the provinces where they do business. You may verify advisor licensing with your provincial regulator, such as the Insurance Council of British Columbia.
