Who we are

BMI Advisory Services Ltd. (“BMI”, “we”, “us”) is an independent insurance brokerage headquartered in Tsawwassen, British Columbia. We are committed to protecting personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act, and other applicable Canadian privacy laws.

What we collect

Contact information you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, and province.

Information needed to prepare quotes and applications, which can include date of birth, health and lifestyle details, financial information, employment details, and information about your family or business. Insurance applications require sensitive information, and we collect it only with your knowledge and consent.

Website usage information, such as pages visited and device type, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

Why we collect it

To respond to your inquiries, prepare quotes, and process insurance applications with the insurers you choose.

To service your coverage over time, including annual reviews and claim support.

To meet legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations.

To send you marketing communications where you have consented to receive them.

Consent

We collect, use, and disclose personal information with your consent, or as permitted or required by law. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may limit our ability to serve you.

Who we share it with

Insurance companies and their underwriters, for quotes, applications, and policy servicing.

Service providers who support our operations, such as technology and communications platforms, under contractual confidentiality obligations.

Regulators, law enforcement, or others where required by law.

We do not sell personal information.

Email, text, and CASL

Where we send commercial electronic messages, we do so in compliance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every marketing email or text includes a clear way to unsubscribe, and we honour unsubscribe requests promptly, and in any case within 10 business days. Transactional messages about your active file are not affected by unsubscribing from marketing.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate properly and to understand how visitors use it. You can adjust your browser settings to limit cookies; parts of the site may not function fully without them.

Storage and cross-border processing

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside of Canada. Where that occurs, the information is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, and we use contractual safeguards to require comparable protection.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described above and to meet legal and regulatory requirements, then securely destroy or anonymize it.

Safeguards

We protect personal information with physical, organizational, and technical safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including access controls and encryption in transit where supported.

Your rights

You may request access to your personal information, ask us to correct it, or ask questions about how it is handled. We respond to written requests within the timelines required by law.

Breach notification

If a breach of security safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the appropriate privacy regulators as required by law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version, with its review date, is always available on this page.
